About JEE (Main) – 2020

The JEE (Main)-2020 will be conducted twice before admissions in the next academic session. The students will have following benefits of the new pattern: ▪ This will give one more opportunity to the students to improve their scores in examination if they fail to give their best in first attempt without wasting their whole academic year. ▪ In first attempt, the students will get a first-hand experience of taking an examination and to know their mistakes which they can improve while attempting for the second time. ▪ This will reduce chances of dropping a year and droppers would not have to waste a full year. ▪ If anyone missed the examination due to reasons beyond control, then he/she won’t have to wait for one full year. ▪ The student’s best of the two NTA scores will be considered for preparation of Merit List/ Ranking.

JEE (Main) - 2020 Eligibility

Candidates aspiring to take JEE Main 2020 have to meet the eligibility criteria set by CBSE, which is the exam conducting authority for the entrance exam. JEE Main 2020 eligibility criteria include eligibility conditions related to age, qualifying exam, qualifying marks, number of subjects in the qualifying examination and number of attempts, etc. Before applying for JEE Main 2020, all aspirants must go through the following eligibility criteria of JEE Main 2020.

Age Limit: For appearing in the JEE (Main) examination there is no age limit for the candidates. The candidates who have passed class 12th / equivalent examination in 2018, 2019 or appearing in 2020 irrespective of their age can appear in JEE (Main) examination – 2020. The candidates should also satisfy themselves about their fulfilling the age limit requirements of the Institutes in which they are desirous of taking admission. The candidates must note that the IITs have an age limit / restriction, which will be published in JEE(Advanced)-2020 Information Brochure.

List of Qualifying Examinations (QE): i. The final examination of the 10+2 system, conducted by any recognized central/ State Board, such as Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi; Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, New Delhi; etc.
ii. Intermediate or two-year Pre-University examination conducted by a recognized Board/ University.
iii. Final examination of the two-year course of the Joint Services Wing of the National Defense Academy
iv. Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Institute of Open Schooling with a minimum of five subjects.
v. Any Public School/ Board/ University examination in India or in any foreign country recognized as equivalent to the 10+2 system by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).
vi. Higher Secondary Certificate Vocational Examination.
vii. A Diploma recognized by AICTE or a State board of technical education of at least 3 year duration.
4 viii. General Certificate Education (GCE) examination (London/Cambridge/Sri Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level. ix. High School Certificate Examination of the Cambridge University or International Baccalaureate Diploma of the International Baccalaureate Office, Geneva.

Year of Appearance in Qualifying Examination: Only those candidates who have passed their Class 12th Examination or any equivalent qualifying examination in 2018 or 2019; or those who are appearing in their Class 12th Examination or any equivalent qualifying examination in 2020 are eligible to appear in January JEE(Main)-2020 Examination.

Candidates who passed Class 12th/Qualifying examination in 2017 or before as well as those who will appear in such examination in 2021 or later are not eligible to appear in JEE (Main)–2020.

Candidates must note that the IITs permit only two attempts for the JEE (Advanced), i.e. a candidate should have appeared for the Class XII (or equivalent) examination for the first time in either 2019 or 2020, subject to the condition of not having been admitted at an IIT on earlier occasion. Details may be obtained from the Information Brochure of the JEE(Advanced)2020.

Reservations: For admission to a participating institute, please see the reservations applicable in that particular institute. In case of institutes run by Central Government,10% of the seats are reserved for Category General-Economically Weaker Section(GEN-EWS), 15% of the seats are reserved for the category Scheduled Caste (SC), 7.5% for the category Scheduled Tribe (ST) and 27% for the category Other Backward Classes belonging to the “ Non Creamy layer” (OBC-NCL). Each category will have 5% reservations for Persons with Disabilities (PwD) as defined in The Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 (RPwD Act 2016).
Other Backward Classes - Non Creamy Layer (OBC–NCL) are as per the Central list of Other Backward Classes available on National Commission for Backward Classes (NCBC), Government of India website www.ncbc.nic.in Thus, the candidates falling in this list may mention OBC in the Category Column. State list OBC Candidates who are not in OBC-NCL (Central List) must choose General.
Section 2(r) of the RPwD Act, 2016 states the following: Persons with benchmark disabilities (PwD) means a person with not less than forty percent (40%) of a specified disability where specified disability has not been defined in measurable terms and includes a person with disability where specified disability has been defined in measurable terms, as certified by the certifying authority.
“Specified Disability” means the disabilities as specified in the Schedule of the RPwD Act 2016.The categories of disabilities are: (i) Blindness and low vision
(ii) Deaf and hard of hearing
(iii) Locomotor disability including cerebral palsy, leprosy cured, dwarfism, acid attack victims and muscular dystrophy
(iv) Autism, intellectual disability, specified learning disability and mental illness, and
(v) Multiple disabilities from amongst persons under clauses (i) to (iv)
(vi) Other ‘specified disabilities’ mentioned in the Schedule of the RPwD Act 2016.
Please refer to Office Memorandum issued by Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment dated 29 August 2018 (F.No.34-02/2015-DD-III), guideline IV, second paragraph quoted below: The facility of Scribe/Reader/Lab Assistant should be allowed to any person with benchmark disability as defined under section 2(r) of the RPwD Act, 2016 and has limitation in writing including that of speed if so desired by him/her.
In case of persons with benchmark disabilities in the category of blindness, Locomotor disability (both arm affected-BA) and cerebral palsy, the facility of scribe/reader/lab assistant shall be given, if so desired by the person.
In case of other category of persons with benchmark disabilities, the provision of scribe/reader/lab assistant can be allowed on production of a certificate to the effect that the person concerned has physical limitation 5 to write, and scribe is essential to write examination on his behalf, from the Chief Medical Officer/Civil Surgeon/Medical Superintendent of a Government health care institution as per performa at Appendix I.
The order further allows the candidate to opt for their own scribe/reader provided the qualification of the scribe is one step below the qualification of the candidate taking the examination. The candidate with bench-mark disabilities opting for their own scribe/reader should submit details of their own scribe as per performa at Appendix II
Twenty minutes per hour compensatory time as per duration of examination will also be allowed to the candidates who are availing the facility of scribe/reader/lab assistant.
Important Note: The reservation policy, as announced by the government from time to time will be followed by the admitting institutes. The candidates are advised to look for the details at the time of admission.
No change in the category will be entertained after the last date of JEE (Main)-2020 application form and no subsequent changes will be effective after declaration of JEE (Main) NTA Score 2020. The category entered in the JEE (Main) database by the candidate will be used by the JEE (Advanced).

JEE Main Sample Papers

CBSE, the exam conducting authority releases the sample papers or question papers of the previous years for aspiring candidates to refer for the entrance test. Practising the sample papers of JEE Main 2025 is an important part of the preparation process for cracking the test. By practising JEE Main 2025 sample papers or model papers, the candidates come to know about the nature of the questions that come in JEE Main paper. They also get to know how to manage time and solve the paper within the given time frame. In other words, they learn time management as they keep on practising more and more model papers of JEE Main 2025.

Apart from CBSE, some coaching institutes also release some sample test papers for candidates to practise. CBSE will release the question papers or sample papers of JEE Main 2025 after the exam gets over. Meanwhile, candidates can check the sample papers of question papers of last year.

The Admit Card of JEE Main 2020 will be made available by the CBSE tentatively in the third week of March 2025 for candidates who have successfully submitted their application form within the time frame.JEE Main 2025 Admit Card will be available online and candidates have to enter details like JEE Main 2025 application number and date of birth to download the admit card.

JEE Main Result

JEE Main Rank List

JEE Main 2025 rank list is the list which will reflect candidates All India Ranks and Category Ranks. The rank list of JEE Main 2025 is expected to be released along with the result of JEE Main 2025 as it was released in 2017. Earlier, the rank list of JEE Main was announced separately than the result, but since last year (as the role of class 12th marks for normalisation was done away with) the rank list has been declared along with the result. JEE Main 2025 rank list will be prepared on the basis of actual scores of the candidates in the engineering entrance test. The All India Ranks (AIRs) are used for admission, while the category ranks are just for information sake. Candidates can download their JEE Main 2025 rank card after checking their JEE Main result 2025 through the result link.

JEE Main Counselling & Seat Allotment

The counselling of JEE Main 2025 will tentatively begin from the third week of June and will continue till the third week of July 2025. It must be noted that CBSE does not conduct the counselling and seat allotment of JEE Main 2025. JEE Main 2025 counselling and seat allotment will jointly be conducted by JoSAA 2025, which also conducts seat allocation procedure for admission to IITs. The counselling and seat allotment process of JEE Main 2025 will be held online for admission to 31 NITs, 23 IIITs and 20 GFTIs – the participating institutes of JEE Main 2025.

Last year, JEE Main counselling and seat allotment was held in 7 rounds, while in 2016 it was conducted in 6 rounds.

JEE Main Participating Institutes

The participating institutes of JEE Main 2025 include engineering institutes/colleges that will offer admissions into B.Tech programmes to the JEE Main 2025 qualifying candidates. JEE Main 2025 participating institutes include 31 NITs, 23 IIITs and 20 GFTIs. These institutes are the official participating institutes of JEE Main 2025, however, there are some state colleges and private institutes which offer admissions into B.Tech programmes based on their score in JEE Main 2025. Engineering colleges in states like Haryana, Uttarakhand, Gujarat, Nagaland, Madhya Pradesh and Odisha will also offer admission to candidates on the basis of JEE Main 2025 scores.
